How to get good

A lot of people in the rhythm game community seem to have this belief that getting good is a very complicated and enigmatic process. You see all these boomers who have been playing for 13 years without gains but keep in mind there are also boomers like Fine, 1048, and Dolce who got good really fast early on, so if you haven’t improved you are probably doing something wrong.

Improving is pretty much: Use random, don’t fixate on dans, and play out of your comfort zone. It’s really that simple; don’t over complicate it.

You want to use random because it will expose you to more patterns. more variety = more experience for your brain and spinal cord -> better at the game.

Also it stops you from being mindblocked and anyone who plays dan mode with forced nonran knows how shitty of a feeling that is. (on a side note, you generally don’t get mindblocked on things that are easier than your comfort zone. Top Ddr, popn, and sdvx players dont get mindblocked because their actual comfort zone is so high)

Don’t fixate on dans. I know you probably want to get a higher dan mode because tbh bragging to your friends about that is one of the most fun things ever, but if you really want to pass it, you can’t force it. Choose to practice your general skillset instead.

And for playing out of your comfort zone, it sort of depends on what you want, but for example, if you want to learn to raise your clearing baility, play things you can easy clear. Hard clearing things won’t really raise your upper clearing ability. Playing songs you can barely easy clear forces you to learn harder patterns.

Same with learning to time. If you want to AAA harder 12s, play songs you get AAs on and try to time them. The other 12s will be much easier when you come back to them.

Improving is really easy lol. If you don’t believe in these tactics just look at the people who have been playing for a bajillion years and still haven’t improved.

Oh yeah, and listen to people who are better than you / got to where you are more quickly than you. They probably at least know what they’re doing more than you.
